TRANSPORTATION
ALTERNATIVES www.transalt.org
|
Nearly all members of the bikeTV staff are
members and volunteers for T.A. – the city’s leading advocates
for pedestrians and cyclists. Through their hard work and
determination, they have won scores of victories and amenities via
direct action and arduous political processes. Many of bikeTV’s
stories are about T.A. volunteer efforts, actions, or
demonstrations. For example: Operation Hazard I.D. (2002-04), Valet
Bike Parking (2003-01), and car-free Central & Prospect Parks
(2002-08, 2003-03, 2003-06, etc.) just to name a few. Their web site
is extensive and has links that should answer ANY question you can
think of about bicycling in NYC - or maybe the world.

TIME'S
UP
www.times-up.org

|
Another membership bike group offering a wide variety of rides, environmental action and protests. Time's Up! is perhaps best known for NOT organizing Critical Mass, an organized cooincindence that occurs in over 300 cities worldwide, and in NY can draw anywhere up to 1000 cyclists (see episode 2002-05.) We also did a story on their fun "Folding Bike Ride" for 2002-02.

RIGHT
OF WAY www.rightofway.org
|
A group
of activists dedicated to asserting the rights of car-free street
users and fighting back against car violence. Right of Way has done
some brilliant analysis of data and statistics, which is available
on their web site. One sample of their advocacy work was the Herald
Square Memorial (co-sponsored by Time's Up!) which we featured in
show 2002-02.

NYC

|
A
statewide group which works with local bicycling groups and the
legislature to foster better conditions for cyclists of all modes.
NYBC actively encourages more use of bicycles for transportation,
sport and recreation.
